Woman arrested in connection with Jacksonville murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities say that a woman has been arrested in connection with a murder that took place in July in the Woodstock neighborhood of Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has named Nicole Hampton, 29, as the suspect in the crime after an investigation.

The victim was identified by family members as 31-year-old Sharmeka Jackson. They say she had three children.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was sent to the 1000 block of Prospect Street on July 22 in response to a report of a gunshot. Officers report that upon arrival, they discovered a dead female inside a residence.

Both the JSO Homicide Unit and the Crime Scene Unit were notified and sent to investigate.

Hampton was located and taken into Duval County Jail with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force after the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for her arrest.
