Driver in wrong-way accident that claimed the lives of 5 people taken into custody

WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – The individual responsible for a wrong-way accident on the 826 is now out of the hospital and in custody, according to police.

Maiky Simeon, 30, was taken into custody on Friday night.

He is facing several charges of vehicular homicide.

Early Saturday morning, Simeon was driving in the wrong direction on the highway at Northwest 57th Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, when he collided head-on with another vehicle. He was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway.

They were on their way home after a night out to celebrate one of them receiving a college scholarship to New York.

There were four women and one man between the ages of 18 and 25 in the vehicle. According to authorities, they all died as a result of the collision.
