Pedestrian died following a hit-and-run accident in South Miami-Dade

SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – Authorities said a pedestrian was killed after they were hit by a vehicle in South Miami-Dade County by a motorist who then left the scene.

Early on Sunday morning, units from the Florida Highway Patrol rushed to the scene of a hit-and-run accident that occurred on U.S. 1, close to Southwest 296th Street.

According to the investigators, the victim was struck in the northbound lanes and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorist managed to get away, although it is now unknown whether or not a search is still underway.

During the investigation, the highway was closed off by the troopers. Since then, it has been reopened to vehicular traffic.
