FDOT and FTBA reveal the outstanding recipients of the 2025 best in construction awards for excellence in Florida’s transportation projects

Orlando, Florida – In an exciting announcement on August 1, 2025, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) revealed the winners of the prestigious 2025 Best in Construction awards. These annual awards celebrate the exceptional contributions made by contractors to Florida’s ever-expanding transportation and infrastructure system. They are given in recognition of the tireless efforts to improve the state’s roads, bridges, and overall infrastructure, while enhancing safety and supporting sustainable growth.

The ceremony, held during FTBA’s Annual Convention in Orlando, highlighted a diverse range of projects from across the state. FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E., expressed immense pride in the projects that were recognized, emphasizing their vital role in shaping Florida’s infrastructure landscape. “These award-winning projects reflect the high standards, collaboration, and innovation that define transportation in Florida,” said Perdue. “FDOT is proud to work alongside industry partners who are deeply committed to delivering infrastructure that enhances safety, strengthens communities, and supports our state’s continued growth. The Best in Construction awards serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication of contractors who not only meet but exceed the high standards set by FDOT. Dan Hurtado, President of FTBA, acknowledged the outstanding efforts of these professionals, emphasizing the lasting impact of their work. “Florida’s roads and bridges are among the best in the world and are built by exemplary professionals who take tremendous pride in their work,” said Hurtado. “FTBA is grateful to partner with FDOT in recognizing some of these outstanding people for their commitment, innovation, and hard work. Their efforts will contribute to Florida’s prosperity for many years to come.”

The awards cover a variety of categories, ranging from major bridge projects to specialized areas such as intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and maintenance of traffic (MOT). FDOT district offices nominate FTBA contractor members in each category, and the State Construction Office thoroughly reviews the nominations based on rigorous criteria that focus on project quality, safety, and innovation. The winners represent the top-tier projects that go above and beyond in their execution and impact.

Here is a breakdown of the notable 2025 Best in Construction award recipients:

Alternative Contracting: Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc., was honored for their work on the State Road 7/U.S. 441 at Oakes Road Widening, which significantly improved the road’s capacity and traffic flow.

Bridge: Southern Road & Bridge, LLC, received recognition for their meticulous work on the U.S. 1 Overseas Highway Bridge Repairs, enhancing the structural integrity of a critical route.

Community Awareness: de Moya Highway Infrastructure, LLC, won the award for their outstanding efforts on the Emerson Street Expressway, a project that involved extensive community engagement and planning to ensure local needs were met.

Design-Build: The Lane Construction Corporation was celebrated for their work on the Wekiva Parkway Section 8, a project that integrated innovative design and construction methods to improve the region’s transportation system.

Interchange: Skanska USA Civil Southeast was awarded for their successful completion of the I-75 at Big Bend Road Interchange, a crucial project aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion.

Interstate: Hubbard Construction Company took home the award for their work on I-4 resurfacing from McIntosh Road to County Line Road, a critical upgrade to one of Florida’s busiest interstate corridors.

ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems): Traffic Control Devices, LLC, was recognized for their role in enhancing connectivity throughout the City of Tampa with significant upgrades to traffic signal systems.

LAP (Local Agency Program): Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc., also received recognition for their work on the Fort Lauderdale Beach Park Entrance to S.R. 838, a key local infrastructure project.

Major Bridge: MasTec Civil, LLC, was honored for their work on the U.S. 1 & Dixie Highway project, which involved complex bridge construction to improve a major thoroughfare.

MOT (Maintenance of Traffic): OHLA USA, Inc., earned recognition for their successful efforts in Boynton Beach Boulevard Safety Improvements, focusing on traffic flow and safety.

Partnering: Orion Marine Construction, Inc., received accolades for their work on the NASA Causeway Bridge, a vital infrastructure project that required close collaboration with various stakeholders.

Rural: M of Tallahassee, Inc., was recognized for their significant contributions to U.S. 98 from the Wakulla River Bridge to S.R. 267, a project that improved rural transportation in the area.

Special Significance: Watson Civil Construction, Inc., received the award for their work on the U.S. 41 Widening from S.R. 44 to Withlacoochee Trail Bridge, a key infrastructure upgrade with special importance for regional connectivity.

Urban: Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC, was awarded for their work on S.R. 78 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements, a major urban enhancement in Florida.

Utility Coordination/Damage Prevention: Florida Engineering and Development Corp. was honored for their successful utility coordination efforts on S.R. A1A (Collins Ave) Resurfacing, preventing damage and enhancing the project’s efficiency.

These awards not only celebrate individual accomplishments but also highlight the collaborative efforts between FDOT, FTBA, and contractors. Together, they work to create safer, more efficient transportation networks that are crucial for Florida’s continued growth and prosperity.
