26-year-old Pembroke Pines man arrested after leading Coral Springs police on high-speed chase through residential streets

Coral Springs, Florida – A 26-year-old Pembroke Pines man was arrested last week after leading Coral Springs Police on a high-speed pursuit through local streets, following an attempt to stop him for excessive speeding on Westview Drive. The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. on October 21, when officers observed the driver traveling at more than 80 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone.

According to the police report, a Coral Springs officer monitoring traffic spotted a black Mercedes-Benz moving at 85 mph, more than double the posted speed limit. When the officer activated lights to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, identified as Zayvion Rickmann, initially pulled over briefly but then abruptly sped away, triggering a pursuit.

The chase took Rickmann through several residential neighborhoods, including Riverside Drive and West Atlantic Boulevard, creating a dangerous situation for residents and other drivers. Police said the suspect continued to evade law enforcement before eventually turning onto a dead-end street near Ramblewood Drive, where he was safely apprehended without injury.

Rickmann now faces multiple charges, including two counts of fleeing and eluding police, obstructing an officer without violence, reckless driving, and illegal window tinting. After being taken into custody, he was booked into the Broward County Jail and later released on bond.

Police emphasized that high-speed pursuits like this pose serious risks not only to the driver involved but also to innocent bystanders. “Driving at speeds more than twice the posted limit in residential areas endangers lives and will not be tolerated,” a spokesperson said.

While the chase ended without physical injuries, the incident serves as a reminder of the hazards associated with reckless driving. Officers involved praised the coordination and restraint demonstrated during the pursuit, noting that the situation could have been far worse without careful handling.

Residents in the areas affected by the chase reported hearing sirens and seeing the Mercedes-Benz darting through streets at alarming speeds. No property damage was reported, but the dramatic pursuit left neighbors shaken.

Authorities continue to investigate whether additional charges could be filed based on the events during the chase. They also reiterated the importance of obeying speed limits and traffic laws, especially in residential neighborhoods where pedestrians, children, and pets are present.

The arrest of Rickmann marks another example of Coral Springs Police taking swift action to address dangerous driving behaviors in the community. With multiple charges now pending, law enforcement officials hope this case sends a clear message that reckless driving and evading police carry serious consequences.

Community members are reminded to report any unsafe driving behaviors and to remain vigilant, especially during peak traffic hours. “Our goal is to keep Coral Springs streets safe for everyone,” police officials said, urging drivers to prioritize safety over speed.
