Broward County Animal Care introduces Missy and DJ Qualls as pets of the week ready to find loving homes this holiday season

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Broward County Animal Care is shining a spotlight on two lovable American Staffordshire Terrier mixes this week, Missy and DJ Qualls, both eager to find forever homes just in time for the holiday season. These affectionate dogs have captured the hearts of shelter staff and volunteers, and they are now hoping to charm prospective adopters looking to expand their families with furry companions.
Missy, a 5-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, has experienced a dramatic journey since being discovered in August inside a stolen vehicle with three other dogs. Though never reclaimed, she quickly made a lasting impression at the shelter. Volunteers and staff describe her as “sweet, affectionate, and highly social with other dogs.” Her friendly demeanor extends beyond the kennel walls—Missy excelled at a recent bustling community event, interacting calmly and warmly with families and children alike.
Shelter staff note that Missy is well-suited for an active household. “She’s ideal for an adventure-filled lifestyle and can easily keep up with her humans on any outing,” a shelter spokesperson said. Missy is fully spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Thanks to the shelter’s waived adoption fees, prospective owners only need to cover the $25 Broward County pet registration fee, making it easier than ever to bring this loving companion home.

DJ Qualls, a 1-year, 8-month-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, was discovered wandering as a stray in Davie in September. Nicknamed the shelter’s “low rider” by volunteers due to her compact build, DJ Qualls has quickly become a favorite among staff and visitors. She is known for her sweet temperament and balanced energy, enjoying the company of other dogs her size or larger while being gentle and loving with children.
Her playful personality shines during Broward Buddies outings, where volunteers take shelter dogs on excursions outside the kennels to enjoy the sunshine and socialization opportunities. “She’s just a joy to be around, affectionate and fun,” volunteers say. Like Missy, DJ Qualls is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and is also available with waived adoption fees—adopters need only pay the $25 pet registration tag.
For anyone looking to welcome a four-legged friend into their home this holiday season, Broward County Animal Care offers the perfect opportunity. Missy, DJ Qualls, and many other adoptable pets are available for viewing at the shelter, located at 2400 SW 42nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open for adoptions daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing a convenient window for prospective pet parents to meet their future companions.
All adopted pets leave the shelter spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, ensuring they are healthy and ready for their new families.
