FDOT will close Loxahatchee Road again starting January 12 for the next phase of a major improvement project

Parkland, Florida – Just months after Loxahatchee Road reopened following earlier construction, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is preparing for another closure as part of its ongoing improvement efforts. The next phase of the Loxahatchee Road Improvement Project will close the roadway between Parkside Drive and U.S. 441/State Road 7 starting January 12, continuing through next fall, transportation officials confirmed.
To manage traffic during the closure, drivers will be redirected along Parkside Drive to Holmberg Road and U.S. 441/State Road 7. State transportation authorities assured residents and business owners that access to properties along Loxahatchee Road will remain open throughout the construction period. “Properties west of NW 61st Way will be accessed through Parkside Drive,” officials said, emphasizing that careful planning is being implemented to minimize disruptions.
Officials also noted that signage will be placed throughout the area to help motorists navigate the detours. “Officials said they plan to install signs throughout the area to direct motorists,” the FDOT statement reads. Despite the temporary inconvenience, the agency stressed the importance of completing this phase to advance the long-term improvements for the roadway.
This latest construction effort is part of a comprehensive $33.5 million project that began in 2023 and is expected to be completed by early 2027. The improvements are designed to enhance safety and traffic flow while providing better infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. Among the planned upgrades are road widening to accommodate bike lanes, sidewalks along the south side of the road, and resurfacing the entire stretch.
Roundabouts will be constructed at key intersections including Nob Hill Road, N. University Drive, and Parkside Drive, aiming to reduce congestion and improve traffic movement. In addition, an extra eastbound left-turn lane will be added at the intersection with U.S. 441/State Road 7 to facilitate smoother turning traffic and reduce delays during peak hours.
The FDOT project reflects a growing commitment to modernizing Parkland’s transportation network and ensuring that the corridor can handle increasing traffic volumes safely. While repeated closures can be inconvenient for daily commuters and local businesses, officials stressed that the long-term benefits would outweigh temporary disruptions.
For residents and travelers in the area, the upcoming months will require adjustments to daily routines, careful attention to signage, and patience. However, once completed, the upgraded Loxahatchee Road is expected to provide safer, more efficient travel for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike, while also enhancing accessibility to local businesses and neighborhoods.
