Hostage standoff in Volusia County leads to 3 dead, Edgewater police say

EDGEWATER, Fla. – An armed suspect took a woman hostage in Edgewater Monday evening, leading to road closures and three deaths, according to the Edgewater Police Department.

Both north and southbound lanes on North Ridgewood Avenue were shut down from 10th Street to Dixwood Avenue due to what police called a “high priority incident,” police said.

Later Monday evening, EPD announced that they had responded to 515 N. Ridgewood Ave. after reports came in about an armed person at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

Police said they were informed a man had been shot and that the suspect took a woman hostage inside the building. They added that the other participants of the meeting fled and were not harmed.

Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect, though police were unsuccessful, according to the police department. A SWAT team breached the building and found three people dead, including the suspect, police said.

Investigators said they believe this was a domestic incident and that there is no further danger to the public.

This is all the information released so far. The case is still under investigation.
