Tracking The Tropics: Low chance for development off the Texas coast
We continue to monitor a disturbance in the western Gulf of Mexico. The unorganized area of storms around this broad area of low pressure continues to drift to the west-southwest and will not likely develop into a named storm as it is expected to make way over land in Texas by Sunday morning.
The National Hurricane Center has given the disturbance a 20% chance for development in the next 2 to 5 days.
The western Gulf is the only area in the Gulf with lower shear values; therefore, the broad low pressure will stick to the western Gulf and has limited time to develop.
The central and eastern Gulf have weakened some in shear over the last couple of days. However, at this point this disturbance will not have an impact on Southwest Florida.
