From Haiti to Cuba, a deep dive into the music and dance

Haiti and Cuba are separated by only 50 miles of ocean, but their shared cultural history has had a big effect on the development of Caribbean music as a whole.

There are no boundaries that music can’t cross. Founder of the NSL Danse Ensemble, Nancy St. Léger, will guide you through a musical exploration as she examines the major Franco-Afro-Haitian origins of Cuban music and dance. This evening of talk, rhythm, and dancing will promote an understanding of the different currents that combined to produce sounds that have subsequently had worldwide influence. The event will be inspired by the current exhibition, Turn the Beat Around.

This event will take place at IPC ArtSpace in Miami, Florida, on November 10, 2022, at 7 p.m. and will be free to attend. The address of the site is 225 NE 59th Street. Register here.
