Coral Springs police report brother and sister fight escalates when she strikes him with a car after bricks are thrown

Coral Springs, Florida – A family argument in Coral Springs took a dangerous turn when a brother and sister engaged in a heated altercation that ultimately led to the sister striking her brother with a car, according to police reports. The incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of November 12, has resulted in the arrest of 24-year-old Shraine Plater of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Police said the confrontation began inside a blue Nissan Altima, where Plater was traveling with her young son, her brother, and his girlfriend. Tensions rose between the siblings during the ride, prompting Plater to pull into the Planet Fitness parking lot at 2101 N. University Drive. Once there, the brother and his girlfriend exited the vehicle, escalating the confrontation.
According to the police report, the brother physically attacked Plater, pulling her out of the car by her hair and punching her in the face multiple times. Plater told police that she had responded with her fist balled up, prompting her brother to strike her in what he described as self-defense. Despite the physical confrontation, Plater was able to return to the car and drive away from the scene.

Authorities say the altercation did not end there. Plater returned to the parking lot, claiming she had come back to retrieve her cell phone, at which point the siblings resumed arguing. The situation intensified when the brother picked up a brick and threw it at the car as Plater drove past him and his girlfriend. In response, Plater sped back toward him and struck him with the vehicle. She later told police that she acted in self-defense, while the brother reported that he suffered bruised ribs and cuts on his left hand from the impact.
The chaotic exchange continued as Plater left the scene and returned once more, prompting her brother to throw another brick at the car, fearing she might strike him again. Police noted that, although statements from those involved were contradictory, it was clear that Plater had left and returned, ultimately hitting her brother with the vehicle.
Coral Springs police arrested Plater around 3 a.m. on November 12 and charged her with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She is currently being held at the Paul Rein Detention Facility awaiting trial on a $10,000 bond, according to court records.
The case highlights the extreme escalation that can occur in domestic disputes, especially when multiple family members are involved in a confined space such as a car. Law enforcement officials are treating the incident with seriousness due to the use of both a vehicle and thrown objects, which placed those involved at significant risk of injury.
Coral Springs authorities urge anyone involved in domestic disputes to seek mediation or contact law enforcement before conflicts escalate. The department emphasized that while emotions can run high in family arguments, actions involving vehicles or weapons carry potentially life-threatening consequences.
As of now, Plater remains in custody while her case moves forward through the court system. Police continue to investigate the incident and gather evidence to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the dangerous encounter in the Planet Fitness parking lot.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly disputes can escalate and the importance of keeping confrontations from turning violent, particularly in public spaces where bystanders could also be at risk.
