Street racing at 100 m.p.h. through Coral Springs results in the arrest of a local man with a long history of violations

Coral Springs, Florida – A dangerous burst of street racing on a busy Coral Springs roadway led to the arrest of a local man whose history behind the wheel already included a long list of violations. Police say the latest incident not only put drivers at risk but also followed a pattern of repeated, serious offenses dating back nearly a decade.

According to Coral Springs detectives, the arrest unfolded on the night of Nov. 11 in the 2400 block of Riverside Drive, shortly after 8 p.m. The situation escalated quickly when officers in an unmarked vehicle saw a motorbike speed past them at an estimated 100 miles per hour. Moments later, a black Ford Mustang driven by 29-year-old Nicholas Anthony Finno tore down the same stretch of road, weaving aggressively through traffic as he tried to catch up to the motorbike.

In the arrest report, detectives noted that the Mustang came close to striking their unmarked cruiser during the chase. The way both vehicles moved strongly suggested a competitive street race taking place on a busy public road. “It was apparent,” the report stated, “that [Finno and the driver of the sports bike] were engaged in a competition to demonstrate the superiority of their respective vehicles.”

The high-speed pursuit continued as both drivers turned off Riverside Drive and onto Shadow Wood Boulevard. Detectives stayed close, watching the vehicles push through traffic until the Mustang eventually came to a stop at a red light. When officers pulled up beside it, they immediately recognized the driver. Finno, according to police, was already well known for his extensive history of traffic violations in Coral Springs.

“This detective has had previous law enforcement interaction with the defendant,” Det. Sean Kaban wrote in the arrest report, noting the long list of prior incidents tied to Finno’s name.

After stopping him just before Ramblewood Drive, detectives questioned Finno about what they had witnessed. Although he denied participating in a street race, the report states that Finno claimed he was simply trying to prevent the motorcycle “from getting in front of him.” A records check soon revealed a familiar issue: his Florida driver license was suspended.

Detectives also pointed out something else they had seen before. The Mustang’s license plate was intentionally obscured — a tactic police say Finno has used repeatedly over the years. According to the arrest report, he has been cited six times previously for obscuring his plate, making it difficult for law enforcement or other drivers to identify the vehicle. Detectives wrote that they believed he used this illegal method “to prevent identification and engage in criminal traffic violations.”

The November incident added to an already lengthy record. Police said Finno has accumulated nearly 30 citations since 2015, including reckless driving, speeding, and driving with a suspended license. His repeat behavior has made him a familiar name to officers monitoring high-risk drivers in the area. “He is a persistent traffic offender and is a danger to fellow motorists,” the arrest report warned.

Finno was taken into custody on charges of racing on a highway, reckless driving, and using a license-plate obscuring device. After being processed at the Coral Springs Police Department, he was booked into the Broward County Main Jail.

As the investigation continues, Coral Springs officers say they hope the arrest sends a reminder about the risks and consequences of street racing on public roads — a dangerous behavior that can quickly turn fatal even without a collision.
