Chiera Family Foundation prepares to host annual gala and golf tournament to support kids battling cancer across South Florida
Coconut Creek, Florida – The Chiera Family Foundation is gearing up for its annual gala and golf tournament, a signature fundraiser that supports children facing cancer across South Florida. The weekend of May 17–18 promises both high-energy entertainment and competitive golf, all aimed at raising funds for the foundation’s N.I.C.K.’s program — “Nothing’s Impossible for Cancer Kids.”
The event kicks off Sunday evening at Broken Sound Country Club with a “Studio 54 Gala.” Guests will enjoy a dinner, live music, and a high-stakes auction, all set against the vibrant disco-era theme. Organizers hope attendees will embrace the energy of the 1970s while supporting a cause that directly impacts children and families coping with cancer.
Monday, May 18, features the golf tournament on Broken Sound’s Old Course. Participants will start the day with check-in and breakfast before a shotgun start. The tournament will include on-course contests, and following the round, golfers will gather for an awards presentation and a chance to celebrate the day’s accomplishments.
Proceeds from both the gala and golf tournament benefit the foundation’s N.I.C.K.’s program, which provides children affected by cancer with summer camp experiences, recreational activities such as golf and ice skating, and scholarships for educational pursuits. Over the years, these efforts have reached thousands of young people in need.
The foundation’s origins trace back to Lou Chiera’s early exposure to charitable giving. While working for a security firm in Deerfield Beach, Lou coordinated corporate donations and witnessed firsthand the tangible difference such contributions could make at a cancer fundraiser. “That was when I really understood the power of giving,” he said.
In 2014, Lou and his brothers, Nick and Vincent, formalized their charitable efforts by founding the Chiera Family Foundation. The inspiration was deeply personal: the loss of their father to cancer, combined with a desire to channel their resources and energy into helping children facing similar battles. The brothers also run Winner’s Award Group, a Coconut Creek-based company that produces custom gifts, apparel, and promotional products for major clients, an enterprise that has helped support the foundation’s initiatives.
Since its founding, the Chiera Family Foundation has raised approximately $5.4 million and aided roughly 4,500 children through N.I.C.K.’s programs. The organization operates without paid staff, relying on volunteers and the community’s generosity through events like the upcoming gala and golf tournament.
“Our goal is to give kids a chance to experience life beyond their diagnosis,” Lou Chiera said. “Every dollar raised allows a child to attend camp, go ice skating, or just enjoy the kind of activities that make them feel like a kid again.”
Tickets and additional details for the May 17–18 events are available on the Chiera Family Foundation’s website. The weekend promises to combine fun, philanthropy, and community spirit, all in support of a mission that has transformed the lives of thousands of children in South Florida.
