Suspect Arrested After Armed Victim Catches Him Stealing Scooter

A Lauderhill man was arrested for grand theft, burglary, and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was caught in the act of stealing a scooter from an armed victim.
On April 3, Coral Springs Police responded to an attempted robbery call near the 1100 block of West Sample Road. Once they arrived, the officers interviewed a group of witnesses who said a man had been acting erratically and attempted to steal a scooter.
According to the report, the man, later identified as Brandon Wright, 29, had approached a group of motorcycles and scooters parked in front of their store. As the group watched, Wright sat on one of the scooters and began slowly backing it out of the parking space.
Witnesses said the scooter owner yelled to alert his co-workers of the theft, and the men ran outside with his firearm to confront Wright.

According to the victim, while holding his firearm down by his side, he grabbed his scooter, telling Wright that he “didn’t want to do that,” which prompted Wright to let go of the bike, drop to the ground, and begin rolling around.

Wright would later leave the scene.
The victim told police he parked his scooter back where it had originally been, and the men went back inside the store to go about their day, choosing not to call the police.
Soon after, the men once again saw Wright appear outside the store. Unsure of his intentions, one of the employees hit a panic alarm that contacted Coral Springs Police.
The report noted that Wright himself had actually called 911 after the first confrontation, telling police that he had been confronted by five males on dirt bikes who were shooting guns in the air and that the men fled to an area just south of where he had attempted the robbery of the scooter.
Police later determined this was a lie.
While detaining Wright, officers discovered he had two warrants for his arrest from a prior grand theft and burglary incidents. As officers were arresting him, they also discovered he was carrying a grinder that contained particles of marijuana.
Wright was transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
