Westbound lanes of State Road 826 closed after 5 people died in a wrong-way accident in Northwest Miami-Dade

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – Due to an ongoing investigation into an automobile accident that resulted in the deaths of many people, the lanes of State Road 826 that go in the westbound direction have been closed.

The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department was sent to the entrance ramp of State Road 826 and Northwest 57th Avenue at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday in response to a report of a vehicle accident.

According to reports, there were two cars involved in the collision.

It was reported that a silver Infinity car was moving in the opposite direction of traffic, heading eastbound while going in the westbound lanes.

The Infinity was involved in a collision with a Honda, which had five female passengers inside. Unfortunately, none of the passengers survived the collision.

One of the victims was extracted from the Infinity using the jaws of life.

“Our crews had to use the jaws to cut out one victim that was trapped in his vehicle. Unfortunately, in the other vehicle there was nobody alive to be saved,” said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Division Chief Marc Chavers.

The victim, who is said to have been driving in the wrong direction, had significant injuries and had to be flown to Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.

At this point, it is not clear what the condition of the victim is.

The accident is still being investigated.

As of 8:19 a.m., all lanes of State Road 826 heading west have been closed.
