New bus stop and route on San Carlos Boulevard

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — On San Carlos Boulevard, this brand new bus stop and route have only been in operation for two mornings as of this writing.

While they wait, officers from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office conduct safety checks on the children to ensure that they are in a secure environment.

On Thursday evening, parents could be seen waiting around here for their children, the majority of whom were arriving from San Carlos Park Elementary. Students from Sanibel School and Fort Myers Beach Elementary School were moved to the school after the storm caused significant damage to both of their previous campuses.

Due to the fact that San Carlos Park Elementary School is located almost a half-hour drive from the schools to which these pupils were traveling, a bus stop is required for some of these families.

We talked to parents who valued the increased sense of safety. However, we also heard from other parents who felt that this site was too remote given that they were forced to move away from Fort Myers Beach.

Due to the one-of-a-kind position of the bus stop, the School District of Lee County informed us that additional security was required, and the deputies had every intention of remaining in this area for as long as their presence was required.
