Florida Keys local authorities arrested out-of-state police officer after hitting and injuring his partner on Monday

RAMROD KEY, Florida – On Monday night, deputies in the Florida Keys arrested a police officer from Iowa on two misdemeanor battery charges. He was accused of punching his girlfriend outside of a bar.
Records from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office say that Charles Leroy Dailey, age 40, is a police officer in Clarinda, Iowa.
The Clarinda Police Department posted on social media that Dailey will be sworn in as an officer in January 2021.
An arrest report says that deputies went to Boondocks Grille and Draft House on Ramrod Key just after 6:30 p.m. after an employee called to say that a woman in the back parking lot of the bar was yelling, “He just punched me!” and holding her face.
According to the report, Dailey got “agitated” when his girlfriend asked to look at his phone because she thought he was talking to other women.
Deputy Hunter Buscemi wrote that Dailey punched the woman in the face “without reason” on surveillance video.
The victim “was seen dropping what appeared to be a phone as she fell onto the pea rock.” She had “swelling on the left side of her face from being punched and abrasions on her legs from falling onto the pea rock,” Buscemi wrote.
According to jail records, Dailey was to be brought before a judge in Monroe County court on March 3.
We left a message for the chief of police in Clarinda, asking for his thoughts.
