Fort Lauderdale police investigate shooting on I-95, traffic delays expected

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Authorities are actively investigating a shooting incident that took place on Tuesday on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) reports that officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:26 a.m., located on West Sunrise Boulevard and the I-95 northbound entry ramp.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered two adult victims—a male and a female—inside a vehicle. Police promptly provided tactical medical care at the scene until the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FLFR) team arrived. The victims were subsequently transported to Broward Health Medical Center, with their current condition yet to be updated.

Investigators are meticulously examining the area in search of evidence. Bullet casings were discovered on the concrete surface, indicating that shots had indeed been fired.

The authorities have cordoned off a white Mercedes SUV on the highway, which appears to be riddled with bullet holes.

At present, westbound traffic on West Sunrise Boulevard between Northwest 16th Avenue and the northbound I-95 entry ramp remains closed. However, eastbound traffic on West Sunrise Boulevard and the southbound I-95 entry ramp are open, and traffic exiting I-95 onto Sunrise Boulevard remains unimpeded.

Motorists traveling northbound on I-95 from West Sunrise Boulevard are advised to anticipate delays in the area and to seek alternate routes. Northbound drivers may opt for Oakland Park Boulevard, while southbound travelers can utilize Broward Boulevard as an alternative.

As the police investigation continues, morning commuters are strongly advised to steer clear of the affected area.
