City of Miramar to honor sprinting legend Usain Bolt with bronze statue

Miramar, Florida – The City of Miramar is set to pay homage to Usain Bolt, the world-renowned sprinter, with the unveiling of a bronze statue.

A special ceremony to honor the fastest man on earth, who currently holds world records in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4 × 100 meters relay events, is scheduled for this Saturday, July 15th. This tribute affirms Bolt’s status as one of the most illustrious sprinters in history.

This significant addition to the city’s landscape is the first monument to be erected as part of the city’s Art in Public Places and Art in the Parks initiatives.

The revealing of the sculpture will take place at the Ansin Sports Complex, located at 10801 Miramar Boulevard. The event is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis is set to preside over the grand unveiling. Further enhancing the day’s festivities, there will be clinics and races involving promising young athletes from the Track & Field community, along with members of the Special Olympics.

In the lead up to the unveiling, a Fundraising Banquet & Silent Auction will take place on Friday, July 14, 2023. The proceeds will go towards supporting the Usain Bolt Foundation and Do the Right Thing, Inc. Tickets for the event are priced at $150 for general admission, $250 for VIP (inclusive of a Meet & Greet), and a Limited Platinum VIP offering for $500 (which includes the opportunity to share a table with Bolt). This event is to be held at the Miramar Cultural Center, 2400 Civic Center Place, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
