Florida Governor DeSantis assures support for businesses affected by Hurricane Debby
Sarasota, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been actively engaging with small businesses in Sarasota and Live Oak in the wake of Hurricane Debby, demonstrating state support for those affected by the storm. During his visits, the Governor reassured business owners of the state’s commitment to aiding their recovery efforts.
“Florida is still open for business,” Governor DeSantis declared, emphasizing the resilience of local businesses despite the setbacks caused by flooding. He underscored that while some establishments have had to temporarily close, they are determined to resume operations soon.
One of the key stops on his tour was the Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar in Sarasota, situated along the Phillippi Creek. This local favorite suffered significant flooding due to the storm’s impact on the adjacent river. The Governor’s visit aimed to boost the morale of the Oyster Bar’s staff as they work tirelessly to reopen their doors.
Additionally, Governor DeSantis visited Live Oak, where he met with proprietors of businesses like the .50 Cal Coffee Shop, which also experienced flood damage. These visits highlighted the Governor’s personal commitment to understanding and addressing the challenges faced by these communities.
To further support recovery, Governor DeSantis announced the allocation of $10 million through the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program. This initiative provides immediate financial assistance to small businesses for bill payments while they undertake repairs. The program is a crucial part of the state’s strategy to sustain the local economy during post-disaster recovery phases.
Florida small business owners, including sole proprietors, affected by Hurricane Debby are encouraged to apply for funding through the program. Applications are open at FloridaJobs.org/EBL until September 30, 2024, or until the designated funds are fully disbursed. This financial support is instrumental in helping small businesses bounce back and continue contributing to Florida’s vibrant economy.
