Jeff Bezos grants $5 million to the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust
Miami-Dade County, Florida – Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, is giving a significant financial boost to the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sánchez will be donating $5 million from the Bezos Day 1 Family Fund to the Homeless Trust.
This is the biggest donation in the history of the Homeless Trust.
A portion of the money will go toward giving homeless people access to essential services and secure housing.
“Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s transformative gift of $5 million is a lifeline for Miami-Dade. It comes at a time when too many families are struggling and finding themselves caught up in the housing affordability crisis,” said Ron Book, Chair, Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust. “We are beyond grateful for their generosity and are committed to making strategic investments to dramatically reduce family homelessness and ensure no child sleeps outside.”
Bezos has been in Miami before. Last year, after graduating from Palmetto High School, he purchased a house on Indian Creek Island, popularly referred to as the “Billionaire Bunker.”
