The upcoming appointment of Coral Springs’ first female City Manager is set for next month, with an annual salary of $290,000
Coral Springs, Florida – As the new year approaches, Coral Spring will welcome its first female city manager, who will take on the responsibility of leading a city with over 130,000 residents, supported by 900 full-time and nearly 400 part-time employees, all while earning an annual salary of $290,000.
Catherine Givens, currently the city’s deputy city manager since May 2022, will assume the role of City Manager following the retirement of Frank Babinec on Jan. 6.
On October 30, the Coral Springs City Commission cast a unanimous vote to appoint her to the position.
On December 4, she entered into a three-year contract with the city.
This week, TAPinto Coral Springs acquired her contract via a records request, which outlines:
– a $600 per month car allowance
– a $10,000 a year bonus for earning and maintaining a certification as a credentialed city manager from the Washington D.C.-based International City/County Management Association
Babenic, earning an annual salary of $322,350, declared his retirement earlier this year following a five-year tenure as city manager.
With 31 years dedicated to public service, he has primarily served as a firefighter in the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department, culminating in over five years as fire chief.
Prior to the commission’s approval of Givens’ contract during its meeting on December 4, City Attorney John Hearn noted that the contract mirrors those of Babinec and the three previous city managers, with the exception of the salary, which the commission proposed and Givens accepted.
During the commission meeting, Mayor Scott Brook and his fellow commissioners expressed their admiration for Givens.
“Catherine, I believe you are a remarkable leader for our community,” Brook stated. “I am genuinely excited about the prospect of you becoming our next city manager.”
Commissioner Shawn Cerra reiterated the mayor’s sentiments.
“I take great pride in your previous achievements, and I eagerly anticipate the direction you will take us as our inaugural female city manager,” he stated.
