A man is accused of homicide in a 2024 Miami house fire that claimed one life

Miami, Florida – According to authorities, a guy has been detained on murder and other counts after he reportedly participated in a house fire in Miami in 2024 that claimed one life.

Marcus Sanchez, 43, was taken into custody on Friday and is charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of first-degree arson and second-degree murder with a firearm.

Just before two in the morning on August 18, firefighters arrived at the house fire at 3056 Southwest 13th Street and saw substantial smoke and flames emanating from the rear of the house, according to the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue.

According to the arrest report, the rear of the building was the primary source of the fire, and when firefighters put it out, they discovered a dead individual inside the house.

According to the report, Sanchez sustained significant burns to his body and was taken to the hospital.

The accelerants that were on Sanchez’s shoes positively matched those detected by the fire marshal’s accelerant detecting K-9 throughout their investigation.

According to the complaint, surveillance footage showed Sanchez filling up a gas can from a pump at a Chevron gas station located at 1000 SW 27th Ave., where an officer subsequently proceeded.

The victim’s method of death was determined to be a homicide by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiners Officer.
