It is anticipated that Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez will be appointed FIU’s acting president

Florida – It is anticipated that Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez will resign from her position and take up the role of Florida International University’s acting president.
The presidential search and selection is the only item on the agenda for Friday’s board of trustees meeting at FIU.
According to a number of reports, she has enough board votes to be appointed president.
Nunez, a native of Miami, spent eight years as a state representative in Tallahassee. In 2018, she and Governor Ron DeSantis were elected for the first time.
It would be somewhat of a homecoming for Nunez, a 52-year-old mother of three who graduated from FIU.
“It has been rumored for a very long time that Lt. Gov. Nunez is going to be appointed, or picked to be the FIU president, which the ripple effects of that, of course, will be Gov. DeSantis will have the opportunity to appoint a new lieutenant governor,” stated Matt Dixon.
Nunez would follow in the footsteps of other politicians who have recently been elected presidents of Florida universities.
Ben Sasse served as president of the University of Florida after representing Nebraska in the U.S. Senate, but he resigned due to claims of improper expenditures.
Former Florida state lawmaker Richard Corcoran departed Tallahassee to take a position as president of Sarasota’s New College of Florida.
