Governor DeSantis launches Florida DOGE task force to cut government waste

Tampa, Florida – In an effort to cut government waste and improve efficiency, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the launch of the Florida State Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) task force today. This new initiative will focus on eliminating unnecessary expenditures within state government, ensuring transparency, and ultimately saving taxpayers money.
“Florida has set the standard for fiscally conservative governance, and our new Florida DOGE task force will do even more to serve the people of Florida,” said Governor DeSantis during the announcement. “It will eliminate redundant boards and commissions, review state university and college operations and spending, utilize artificial intelligence to further examine state agencies to uncover hidden waste, and even audit the spending habits of local entities to shine the light on waste and bloat.”

Under DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has already made significant strides in reducing government size and expenses. The state has the lowest number of government workers per capita in the country, while still providing high-quality services at lower costs than other states of similar size. Since taking office in 2019, Governor DeSantis has led efforts to streamline government and reduce spending.
Florida has cut down on unnecessary boards, saved billions in taxpayer money—including $3.5 billion in savings last year alone—and reduced state debt by 41%. At the same time, the state has built up a rainy-day fund of over $9.4 billion.
The new Florida DOGE task force will take a comprehensive approach to eliminating government inefficiency. One of the primary goals is to reduce bureaucracy by abolishing an additional 70 boards and commissions in the coming year. The task force will also take a close look at state colleges and universities to identify areas where spending can be trimmed. Artificial intelligence will be used to assist in analyzing state agencies’ operations, uncovering waste, and further improving efficiency.

“We will use the best available technologies to modernize and improve government services,” DeSantis continued. “The task force will also audit local government spending, using publicly available records to expose waste at the local level. We want to make sure every dollar is spent wisely.”
Additionally, the task force will ensure that unused or surplus federal funds allocated to the state are returned, helping to further reduce unnecessary taxpayer burdens.
The Florida DOGE task force will operate for one year, after which it will sunset. Governor DeSantis’ ongoing efforts aim to make Florida government more efficient, transparent, and accountable to the people it serves.
