City commission to vote on $800,000 police laptop purchase

Coral Springs, Florida – The city of Coral Springs is exploring a plan to spend up to $800,000 on rugged laptops for its police force, aiming to enhance efficiency and durability for officers working in the field. The proposal, which city commissioners are set to review on Wednesday, would supply 143 specialized laptops to officers who rely on technology while on patrol.
According to a city memo, the rugged laptops are specifically designed to withstand the tough conditions officers face daily, whether in patrol cars or on motorcycles. Their durability and reliability make them the best option for law enforcement operations.
“With the limited space within the vehicles, the mounting capability is more maneuverable and will not interfere with the light/siren box,” the memo stated. The laptops are expected to offer improved performance while seamlessly integrating with the department’s existing systems.

If approved, the city will acquire the laptops through OMNIA Partners, a cooperative purchasing group that helps government agencies obtain competitive pricing on essential equipment. The contract would be awarded to PC Net Inc., operating as PCN Strategies, with the agreement spanning from March 5, 2025, to November 7, 2026.
The total estimated cost for the initial purchase is $720,000, with an additional budget allocation allowing for accessories or extra units, bringing the total potential expenditure to $800,000. The extra funds would ensure officers have the necessary tools to maximize efficiency in their day-to-day responsibilities.
Coral Springs officials believe this investment would significantly benefit the police department, ensuring officers have access to durable and reliable technology while in the field. Supporters of the proposal argue that providing officers with upgraded equipment will lead to improved response times, better communication, and increased overall effectiveness in law enforcement operations.
