Florida pays tribute to the late Senator Geraldine Thompson by lowering flags to half-staff at government buildings statewide

Tallahassee, Florida – In a solemn tribute to a dedicated public servant, flags across Florida will be flown at half-staff on Thursday, March 13, 2025, in honor of the late Senator Geraldine Thompson. The directive, issued by state officials, applies to the United States and Florida state flags at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, as well as all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Orange County.

Senator Thompson, who passed away on February 13 at the age of 76, was a respected leader with a legacy of service spanning nearly two decades in the Florida Legislature. She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006, where she served until 2012. She then continued her advocacy work in the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2016 before returning to the House from 2018 to 2022. In 2022, she was re-elected to the Senate to represent District 15, a position she held until her passing.
