Governor Ron DeSantis announces over 14 million dollars in new investments to strengthen infrastructure and workforce training across Florida

Fort Pierce, Florida – Governor Ron DeSantis announced a major economic investment this week, unveiling more than $14.5 million in funding from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to support key infrastructure upgrades and workforce training programs across the state.
The funding will be distributed among four projects in different regions of Florida, targeting industries like aerospace, aviation, logistics, and manufacturing. The goal is to strengthen Florida’s economic foundation while giving workers the tools they need to thrive in high-demand careers.
“Florida’s Job Growth Grant Fund drives economic development by supporting critical infrastructure projects and expanding workforce training opportunities at the local level,” said Governor DeSantis, emphasizing the state’s ongoing efforts to create jobs and prepare residents for the future workforce.
Four entities will receive funding in this latest round of grants: Indian River State College, Miami Dade College, Sebring Airport Authority, and Wakulla County. Each award focuses on projects that align with regional economic goals while also advancing statewide priorities.
Indian River State College will receive $4 million to establish the Institute for Industrial Manufacturing and Production Training. This new institute is designed to fast-track students into industrial and manufacturing careers by offering hands-on technical training. The initiative addresses the growing demand for skilled workers in the college’s service area and helps companies fill critical labor shortages.
In South Florida, Miami Dade College will receive nearly $4.9 million to launch two new aircraft mechanic programs. The programs will be geared toward students interested in careers in aviation maintenance, repair, and operations. Graduates of the programs will be prepared to step directly into industry roles, helping to meet workforce demands in a fast-growing sector.
Sebring Airport Authority has been awarded just over $2.1 million to improve roadway infrastructure near its logistics center. The project will focus on reconstructing and resurfacing Webster Turn Drive—an essential route that links airport operations with nearby businesses. The improvements are expected to enhance regional transportation efficiency and support local business growth.
Wakulla County will receive $3.5 million to support the construction of two new county-owned buildings in Opportunity Park. These facilities will create space for manufacturing operations and help attract new business to the area, expanding economic opportunities in a community eager for development.
“Governor DeSantis’ commitment and focus on infrastructure and workforce investments, especially in target sectors like manufacturing and aerospace and aviation, continues to support job creation and economic prosperity in Florida,” said Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “These strategic investments in Indian River, Miami-Dade, Highlands, and Wakulla Counties will support economic growth and provide new opportunities for job seekers and job creators in these communities.”
The Job Growth Grant Fund has become a central tool in Florida’s strategy to stimulate job creation and future-proof the state’s economy. By providing flexible funding for both infrastructure and workforce projects, the fund allows communities to meet their unique needs while aligning with Florida’s larger economic vision.
As Florida continues to grow, leaders say investments like these are key to keeping the state competitive on a national and global scale. With this round of funding, Governor DeSantis signals that workforce readiness and smart infrastructure remain top priorities for his administration.
