Military veteran and former police officer scott botting takes over bageland and aims to strengthen its connection to the coral springs community

Coral Springs, Florida – Scott Botting has always had a deep-rooted commitment to serving his community. Whether it was as a U.S. Marine stationed in Japan or as a long-time police officer with the Margate Police Department, Botting’s career has been focused on helping others. Now, the Coral Springs native is channeling that same dedication into a new venture—owning and operating Bageland, a beloved local eatery that has served the community for decades.

“When people come here, we want them to feel like they’re part of our family,” Botting said, emphasizing his commitment to making Bageland a place where patrons not only enjoy great food but feel welcome. As the new owner, Botting’s goal is to maintain the spirit of the restaurant, which has been a cornerstone of Coral Springs for over 30 years, while also making subtle updates to the menu that reflect his passion for food and quality service.

Bageland has long been a go-to spot for Coral Springs families, offering a variety of breakfast and lunch options. Botting, however, has some ideas on how to build on its already impressive legacy. While he plans to stay true to the restaurant’s roots, he’s also eager to make some small but noticeable improvements, particularly to some of the menu’s favorite items. His upgrades include an improved burger and bacon, as well as the introduction of new dishes like Philly cheesesteaks and avocado toast. However, the crowd-pleasing tuna and chicken salads remain as popular as ever, ensuring that loyal customers can still enjoy their old favorites.

Born and raised in Coral Springs, Botting has a deep connection to the community. He was part of the first freshman class at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and has lived in the area his entire life. After serving as a military officer stationed at Camp Foster in Okinawa, Japan, and Camp Lejeune from 1996 to 2000, he returned home and dedicated 15 years to law enforcement with the Margate Police Department. This was followed by a transition to the private sector, but Botting stayed involved in the community, raising his two children in Coral Springs and supporting local youth activities. He helped his son with go-kart racing and took family trips to the Keys. His partner, Chantal, is a deputy fire chief for the city of Fort Lauderdale, further solidifying their family’s deep ties to public service.

Botting’s early experiences working in local restaurants, including pizza and Chinese food establishments in Coral Springs, never left him. These experiences gave him a strong appreciation for the local food scene and laid the foundation for his eventual decision to purchase Bageland. He spent years in discussions with previous owner Rob Elbaum before finally deciding to take the plunge into restaurant ownership. Bageland, with its two locations in Coral Springs and another in Plantation, has long been a staple of the community, and Botting was eager to ensure its future.

“These are staples in the community with a great staff,” Botting said of Bageland’s lasting presence. “It’s been here for 30 years, and I want to make sure it’s here for another 30.” His dedication to maintaining the restaurant’s legacy while enhancing it for the future is evident in every aspect of his leadership.

Since taking over, Botting has focused on using fresh ingredients, ensuring attentive service, and fostering a warm, welcoming atmosphere that customers have come to love. Under his leadership, Bageland continues to be a local gathering place where families, friends, and community members can enjoy delicious meals and feel a sense of belonging.

Botting also plans to continue Bageland’s longstanding tradition of supporting local schools and youth sports leagues through fundraising efforts, a vital part of the business’s relationship with the community. As the restaurant looks to expand in the coming years, Botting is excited about the opportunities ahead and remains committed to serving his community in a new and meaningful way.

After years of serving his community in uniform, Scott Botting is now proud to keep serving — but this time, it’s one bagel at a time. His commitment to public service remains strong, and with his dedication to Bageland and its legacy, it’s clear that the eatery will continue to be a beloved part of Coral Springs for many years to come.
