Man under the influence of THC gummies resists arrest and injures two Coral Springs police officers

Coral Springs, Florida – In a violent confrontation that left two officers injured, a man high on THC gummies fought back against Coral Springs police during an arrest in late May. The chaotic incident, which unfolded on May 26, saw 44-year-old Kelvin Denis, allegedly under the influence of marijuana edibles, resisting arrest after officers responded to a domestic violence call at his home.

According to the arrest report, Denis’ wife informed officers that he had attacked her earlier in the day, grabbing her by the neck and causing visible injuries. The altercation reportedly began when Denis returned to the home after an earlier argument with his wife. His wife told police that he was under the influence of THC gummies at the time of the attack, which may have contributed to his violent and erratic behavior.

When Coral Springs police arrived at the scene, Denis reportedly refused to cooperate with officers. As they attempted to intervene, he fought back fiercely, ignoring their commands and physically resisting. The situation quickly escalated, putting the officers in a dangerous position.

In an attempt to subdue Denis, one officer deployed a Taser. However, the Taser briefly stunned him before malfunctioning, allowing him to continue his violent resistance. During the struggle, Denis allegedly grabbed the Taser and attempted to use it against the officers. In the midst of the fight, Denis also grabbed one officer by the torso and forcefully shoved him to the ground.

The situation became increasingly dangerous, and multiple officers were required to subdue Denis. Despite several Taser deployments, it took a combined effort from the officers to finally bring Denis under control. Unfortunately, during the struggle, two officers sustained injuries and were later transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical treatment.

Denis was also medically evaluated before being booked into the Broward County Main Jail. He now faces several serious charges, including domestic battery, resisting arrest with violence, and two counts of battery on law enforcement officers. Despite the severity of the charges, court records indicate that Denis has been released on bond.

The incident has drawn attention to the potential dangers associated with the use of marijuana edibles, especially when combined with violent behavior. As investigations continue, authorities are reminding the public of the serious legal and health risks associated with consuming substances like THC gummies, which can impair judgment and contribute to erratic actions.

Coral Springs police have yet to comment further on the incident, but the two officers injured during the struggle are expected to recover. The community remains shocked by the violent events, and local officials are reiterating the importance of ensuring public safety, especially during situations involving intoxication and domestic violence.
