South Coral Springs new community center faces a longer wait as Kiwanis Park renovation continues into next year
Coral Springs, Florida – Residents in South Coral Springs hoping to see the long-planned community center open its doors this year will have to wait a little longer, as city officials confirmed that construction tied to the wider Kiwanis Park renovation will now stretch into early next year. The project, which has moved forward in phases, remains one of the most significant public upgrades in the southern part of the city.
The upcoming community center at 520 Ramblewood Drive was designed as the heart of the renovation effort. Billed as a “multi-generational” hub, the building is intended to serve a wide range of Coral Springs residents — from young families to seniors looking for a comfortable place to gather. The center represents a major portion of the overall investment into Kiwanis Park, which includes approximately $1.13 million from federal pandemic stimulus funds to help bring the plan to life.
While the community center remains unfinished, several other pieces of the redevelopment have already been checked off the list. The city’s update noted that the new playground, a new pavilion, and the reconstructed Fire Station 64 are completed. These additions have already begun shaping the park into a more modern and accessible public space.
Once construction wraps up, the community center is expected to offer a variety of amenities. Plans include a lounge area with seating and televisions, a fully renovated kitchen designed to host cooking classes and demonstrations, and an outdoor patio intended for small gatherings and events. A large multipurpose room will support meetings, senior activities, youth programs, and other community events throughout the year.
Technology upgrades are also a significant part of the design. Residents can expect improved Wi-Fi access, dedicated data lines, and upgraded security features. Inside the building, a spacious area is set to be transformed into a wood-floor activity zone suitable for indoor recreation such as basketball and pickleball. Outside, a multi-use court will provide more opportunities for sports and community programming.
The city had originally targeted the completion of the entire Kiwanis Park project by this month, but officials now expect the work to continue into the early months of next year. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the shift in the timeline or how much additional work remains.
Despite the delay, city leaders maintain that the finished community center will ultimately provide a much-needed gathering place for the surrounding neighborhoods. For now, residents will continue to watch the project progress and wait for the day the new facility finally opens its doors.
