Driver killed after Mercedes-Benz crashes into tree on Coral Ridge Drive in Coral Springs
Coral Springs, Florida – A 59-year-old man died last week after the Mercedes-Benz sedan he was driving left the roadway and crashed into a tree in Coral Springs, according to police.
The fatal crash happened around 4:21 p.m. on Friday, July 24, in the 3900 block of Coral Ridge Drive. Officers responded to the area after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a single vehicle.
Police identified the driver as Vitali Lichtenstein of Pembroke Pines. Investigators said Lichtenstein was traveling south on Coral Ridge Drive in a Mercedes-Benz sedan when the crash occurred.
According to Coral Springs Sergeant Francis Capre, the vehicle moved from the right lane into the left lane before striking the curb along the center median. The impact caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, jump the curb and continue toward a tree, where it struck the tree head-on.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Lichtenstein inside the vehicle and in need of medical attention. Emergency responders attempted to provide assistance, but Lichtenstein died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the crash location.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the collision, and there were no reports of additional injuries connected to the crash.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the accident. Authorities are working to determine whether Lichtenstein was attempting to change lanes before the crash or whether the Mercedes-Benz moved across the roadway unexpectedly.
“The investigation remains open,” police said.
The crash caused a response from local authorities as investigators worked to document the scene and collect information about what happened. As part of the investigation, officers are reviewing available evidence to better understand the moments before the vehicle left its lane.
