Coral Springs Police seek school crossing guards ahead of August 10 school reopening
Coral Springs, Florida – With Broward County Public Schools preparing to reopen on August 10, the Coral Springs Police Department is looking to add more school crossing guards to help protect students during their daily trips to and from school.
The department announced that Staffing Connection, the city’s vendor responsible for hiring school crossing guards, is currently accepting applications for the part-time positions.
Crossing guards have an important role during the busiest periods of the school day. They help children safely cross streets and busy intersections during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, while also assisting with traffic movement around school campuses.
The need for additional crossing guards comes as families prepare to return to their normal school routines. With more children, school buses and vehicles on local roads during peak hours, crossing guards provide an extra layer of safety at designated locations.
According to the department’s social media announcement, people hired for the positions will be assigned to locations as close to their homes as possible when feasible. That could make the job particularly convenient for residents who want part-time work close to their neighborhoods.
The position also comes with a schedule that may appeal to people looking for limited daytime hours. School crossing guards work approximately 1.5 hours each school day but are paid for three hours per day.
The work is centered around school arrival and dismissal, meaning guards are not required to work a traditional full-day schedule. Their presence is instead focused on the periods when students and vehicles are moving around schools in the greatest numbers.
For Coral Springs, having enough crossing guards in place is part of preparing for the start of another school year. Drivers will also need to adjust to increased traffic around schools and watch carefully for children crossing streets.
