Coral Springs man allegedly hurls concrete paver at vehicle carrying his ex and their five children

Coral Springs, Florida – A Coral Springs man is facing multiple charges after allegedly throwing a concrete landscaping paver at a vehicle carrying his ex and their five children, in an incident that also revealed a prior shooting inside the family home. Authorities said the chaotic series of events began on August 12, when Nealando Richards’ ex arrived at his residence to pick up the children.

According to the arrest report, a verbal dispute over bills quickly escalated. That’s when Richards reportedly picked up a concrete paver and hurled it at his ex’s car as she drove off with the children inside. The dramatic confrontation prompted immediate law enforcement involvement and a subsequent investigation into Richards’ history of violent behavior.

The following day, a Department of Children and Family Services investigator spoke with the couple’s five children. During the interviews, two of the children revealed a frightening incident from July 2024. According to their statements, Richards accused their mother of infidelity and claiming he had contracted a sexually transmitted disease. The argument allegedly turned violent when Richards pulled out a gun, pointed it at the mother, and fired a round into the family room wall while the children were present. Investigators later confirmed a bullet hole in the home’s wall, corroborating the children’s accounts.

Richards’ ex told police she feared for her life during the encounters, noting that Richards had threatened to “put two in her head” and had sent disturbing text messages, including songs and videos referencing murder and killing. She also said that after the paver incident, Richards warned her that if he had his gun that morning, “he would have killed everyone,” the arrest report said.

When questioned by investigators, Richards admitted to causing the bullet hole but claimed the gun “went off accidentally” while he was slamming it on the kitchen counter or attempting to clear a jam. He maintained that he fired the gun into the wall opposite his ex but insisted he had no intention of shooting her.

Despite his explanations, authorities determined that the incidents posed significant danger to both the children and the mother. On August 14, Richards was arrested at his Coral Springs home. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and shooting into a dwelling.

Richards is currently being held at Broward County Main Jail, where he remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. Law enforcement officials emphasized the seriousness of the incidents and noted that the investigation highlights the potential risks to children in domestic disputes involving firearms and violent behavior.

Community members and neighbors described the events as shocking and disturbing. Many expressed concern over the safety of families in the area, particularly when domestic conflicts escalate in such dangerous ways. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information about similar threats to report them immediately, underscoring the importance of vigilance and swift law enforcement action in preventing tragedy.
