Coral Springs man arrested after woman escapes armed broad daylight attack and calls 911 to report the incident

Coral Springs, Florida – A Coral Springs man was arrested on November 9 following a terrifying broad daylight attack in which a woman walking home narrowly escaped a sexual assault, police say. The incident unfolded near Northwest 115th Avenue and Northwest 39th Street, leaving residents shaken and authorities calling for vigilance.

According to the Coral Springs Police Department, 22-year-old Jamarion Joseph Walden was taken into custody and booked on charges of attempted sexual battery with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment. Investigators say Walden targeted the woman while she was returning from the Dollar Tree on Sample Road, confronting her in a quiet area during the day.

The victim told officers she first noticed something unusual about the man’s appearance. Walden was reportedly dressed in heavy clothing not suited for the weather, including a hooded jacket with a gray upper half and a dark lower half, black pants, and a full-face balaclava. “Moments later,” police said, “the victim claimed Walden grabbed her from behind, pulled her to the ground, and tried to drag her toward a shaded area across the street.”

During the attack, the woman said Walden partially removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her while threatening her with a gun. She stated, however, that she never actually saw a firearm. Despite the threat, she continued yelling for help and managed to break free when a vehicle approached the scene. She ran home and immediately called 911.

Police responded quickly, canvassing the neighborhood while the victim was transported to the Nancy J. Cotterman Center for a sexual assault examination. Investigators later located Walden and took him into custody. Surveillance footage from nearby homes reportedly showed Walden following the victim in the moments leading up to the attack, further corroborating her account.

Detectives also discovered that Walden may have been involved in a suspicious encounter with another woman earlier that same morning. That woman told police a masked man wearing similar clothing approached her while she was walking her dog, raising concern that the suspect may have been targeting multiple victims.

During interviews with police, records indicate Walden admitted to grabbing the first victim, causing her to fall, and telling her he had a gun. Investigators say he also acknowledged that he “probably would have tried to rape her” had she not resisted.

Walden was booked into the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. Police have not indicated whether any additional charges are expected, but the investigation remains active. Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity immediately.

The Coral Springs Police Department emphasized the importance of community awareness, especially during daylight hours when attacks are often thought to be less likely. This incident underscores the dangers that can arise even in familiar neighborhoods and highlights the courage of the victim, whose quick thinking and persistence prevented a potentially more serious assault.
