Coral Springs man accused of violently beating and strangling woman during hours-long domestic violence incident

Coral Springs, Florida – A Coral Springs man is facing multiple domestic violence charges after police say a woman was brutally attacked inside a home for several hours, suffering injuries consistent with strangulation and repeated physical abuse.

According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, officers were dispatched to the residence around 6:36 a.m. on May 4 after receiving a medical emergency call connected to a possible domestic disturbance. What officers encountered upon arrival, investigators say, quickly escalated into a serious criminal case involving allegations of prolonged violence throughout the night.

Dispatchers reportedly heard a man in the background during the 911 call repeatedly saying, “hang up the phone,” before officers arrived at the home.

Police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Mark Scott. When officers reached the residence, Scott allegedly told them his girlfriend was inside and required medical attention. But moments later, investigators say the woman gave a far different account of what had happened overnight.

According to the affidavit, the woman appeared visibly terrified when officers made contact with her. Police observed bruising around her neck, injuries to her lips, and signs of significant physical distress. Officers also noted that she struggled to walk on her own without assistance.

The woman immediately pleaded with officers, saying, “Get him away from me. He beat me up, punched me, choked me, and threw me on the ground.”

Fire rescue crews later transported her to a hospital for medical treatment.

Investigators say the woman described a violent ordeal that lasted between three and four hours. According to the report, she told officers she had gone to Scott’s home the previous evening after arriving by Uber. At some point, the two began arguing about infidelity, and the confrontation allegedly turned physical.

Police say the woman reported that Scott grabbed her by the hair, dragged her, punched her repeatedly, and continued assaulting her through the night. She also alleged that he strangled her to the point where she lost consciousness.

One of the more disturbing details in the report came from statements provided by Scott’s son, who was reportedly inside the house during the incident. Investigators said the son told officers he could hear the woman screaming for hours.

According to the report, he recalled hearing phrases such as “stop” and “you’re going to kill me.” At times, he said, her voice became faint and quiet “like she was being choked.”

Authorities also allege the woman was prevented from getting help during the incident. Police said she attempted to arrange transportation to the hospital by calling an Uber, but Scott allegedly took away her phone. Eventually, investigators say, she managed to regain possession of it and contact emergency responders.

Scott denied assaulting the woman, according to police records. He reportedly told officers that no physical fight had taken place and claimed the woman’s injuries were the result of her falling while intoxicated.

Detectives ultimately arrested Scott and transported him to the Coral Springs Police Department for processing. He was later booked into the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.

Court records show Scott now faces charges including domestic battery by strangulation, misdemeanor domestic battery, and tampering with a witness by interfering with 911 communication.

Although he has since bonded out of jail, the court ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim while the case proceeds.

Domestic violence advocates often point to strangulation allegations as one of the most serious warning signs in abusive relationships. Medical experts have long noted that victims can suffer severe internal injuries even when external bruising appears limited.

The Coral Springs case remains under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the woman’s current medical condition.

If convicted on the felony strangulation charge, Scott could face significant prison time under Florida law.
