Margate accountant Ana Rodriguez launches TaxNova to give small businesses personalized accounting and tax support beyond tax season
Margate, Florida – After more than two decades working for other accounting firms, Ana Rodriguez decided it was time to build a business around the kind of service she believes small business owners need most — personal attention.
Rodriguez recently launched TaxNova, LLC, a Margate-based accounting firm designed to provide small businesses and individuals with a broad range of financial and tax services. Her goal is straightforward: help clients understand their numbers, plan ahead and avoid discovering tax problems only when a deadline is approaching or an IRS letter arrives.
For Rodriguez, the new company represents a major change after 26 years in the accounting industry. Since graduating from college in 2000, she had worked for CPA firms, spending most of her professional career handling taxes and accounting for other people’s businesses.
Now, she is running her own firm.
Rodriguez earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Inter-American University in Puerto Rico. After graduating in 2000, she entered the accounting field and later moved to Florida, where she continued working with CPA firms.
Her professional credentials expanded in 2024 when she earned her enrolled agent license from the Internal Revenue Service after passing all four required exams. The federal credential allows her to represent taxpayers before the IRS in any state and on a wide range of tax matters.
That experience is one of the services Rodriguez believes can be especially valuable to small business owners. Many entrepreneurs spend most of their time trying to keep their companies running, she said, and may not think about tax planning until there is a problem.
TaxNova was created to provide assistance throughout the year rather than simply prepare a return once tax season arrives.
“TaxNova offers full accounting services, from creating a business to all the licenses with the state and the federal government, tax ID, all business creation and compliance,” Rodriguez said. “And tax projections. That is the most important thing.”
The company offers bookkeeping, payroll services, corporate and individual tax returns, sales tax filings, financial statements, business formation and IRS representation. Rodriguez also works with business owners on financial projections and tax planning.
She said the difference is in what happens after the numbers have been entered into the books.
“It is not just bookkeeping and entering data,” Rodriguez said. “After that, I do the accounting, I do the projections, and I show the client, look, this is where you are now, and here is what we could do to improve your tax liability, so your business grows.”
Rodriguez said she wants clients to have a clear picture of where their business stands financially. Rather than waiting until the end of the year to calculate a tax bill, she reviews the numbers with clients each month and prepares a tax projection annually.
That approach, she said, can give business owners more time to make decisions and potentially reduce surprises when taxes are due.
“If you call me, I will return your call. I will be on top of your accounting, giving you advice,” she said. “We do a tax projection to make sure that at the end of the year they are penalty proof, that we find a way they can save on taxes.”
Personal service is central to the way Rodriguez says she wants TaxNova to operate. After spending years in larger accounting environments, she said she prefers a more direct relationship with clients.
“My way of working is like an old-fashioned way of doing business, very personalized, because I really care about the client,” she said. “It is very important that the client can recommend my service to their friends, their neighbors.”
That philosophy also means staying available when clients have questions. For a small business owner, an unanswered phone call or an accounting issue left unresolved can quickly become a larger concern.
Rodriguez hopes her approach will appeal to businesses in Margate, Coral Springs and surrounding communities that want a closer relationship with their accountant.
Language is another part of that connection. Rodriguez is bilingual and works with both English- and Spanish-speaking clients. She said she particularly wants Spanish-speaking business owners in the area to know that they can receive accounting and tax assistance in their own language.
“We speak the same language,” she said. “I will perfectly understand your needs as a Spanish speaker. But I can work with all types of clients.”
The launch of TaxNova comes at a time when many small business owners are dealing with increasingly complicated financial responsibilities. Taxes are only one part of running a company. Business owners also have to manage payroll, sales taxes, licenses, financial records and compliance requirements.
Rodriguez’s aim is to bring those pieces together so clients can spend less time worrying about paperwork and more time concentrating on their businesses.
Her career path, from studying accounting in Puerto Rico to working for CPA firms in Florida and eventually earning an enrolled agent license, has given her experience across many areas of the profession. With TaxNova, she is putting that experience behind a company that she can shape around her own approach to client service.
For Rodriguez, the business is not simply about preparing tax returns. She sees accounting as a tool that can help owners understand what is happening inside their companies and make better decisions before problems develop.
