Man arrested after alleged gun threat and fentanyl discovery near Coral Springs hotel
Coral Springs, Florida – A late-night encounter at a Coral Springs convenience store turned into a police investigation after a man allegedly threatened an employee’s boyfriend with a gun and then followed him along a nearby road.
Roger Wilson, 36, of Coconut Creek, was arrested Sept. 1 and is facing charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and fentanyl trafficking. Prosecutors are seeking to have him held without bond while the case moves forward.
According to a police report, the incident began around 2:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven located at 5615 N. University Drive. A man had arrived at the store to pick up his girlfriend after she finished her shift.
Police said Wilson entered the store around the same time and began flirting with the woman. He allegedly offered to pay her to accompany him to a room at the nearby Studio 6 hotel.
The woman refused the offer and told Wilson that she had a boyfriend, according to the report. Authorities allege that Wilson then threatened to shoot the couple.
Wilson was escorted out of the store.
The situation did not end there, however. The woman’s boyfriend later walked to a nearby bus stop so he could arrange an Uber. While he was there, he told police, Wilson appeared again.

The boyfriend said Wilson pointed a black handgun at him and threatened to shoot him. He then walked away from the area, but police said Wilson followed him east along Westview Drive.
The man eventually contacted Coral Springs police, prompting officers to respond.
Officers located Wilson in the parking lot of the Studio 6 hotel. Police said he refused their commands and attempted to leave. Officers then used a Taser to stop him.
During the arrest, police said they discovered 4.54 grams of fentanyl in Wilson’s pocket. The discovery led to the additional trafficking charge.
The location of the drug seizure has also been highlighted by prosecutors. According to the state’s motion, the fentanyl was found about 450 feet from Imagine Charter Elementary/Middle School.
The Studio 6 property itself has previously been linked to drug activity in other police cases, according to the information provided by authorities.
Prosecutors are asking a judge to keep Wilson in custody without bond as he awaits trial. The fentanyl trafficking charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison.
If Wilson is convicted on all of the charges, prosecutors say he could face as much as 47 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Court records cited in the state’s motion also point to Wilson’s previous interactions with the criminal justice system. Prosecutors said he has a criminal history and has failed to appear for court proceedings seven times since 2020.
The allegations against Wilson stem from a series of events that began with an encounter inside the 7-Eleven and quickly moved outside the store. Police say the situation escalated from an unwanted offer to an alleged threat involving a firearm, followed by a pursuit along Westview Drive.
Authorities ultimately found Wilson at the nearby hotel, where he was taken into custody after officers said he refused to follow their commands.
The case now moves through the court system, where Wilson will have the opportunity to respond to the charges against him. The allegations described in the police report and prosecutors’ motion are accusations, and a conviction has not been established.
