Broward Commissioner Udine highlights October events, key election dates and breast cancer awareness activities
Coral Springs, Florida – October is bringing a busy mix of outdoor activities, major events, election deadlines and health awareness efforts to Broward County, according to Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine.
As cooler weather begins to arrive in South Florida, Udine is encouraging residents to take advantage of programs and recreational opportunities offered throughout Broward County. Parks across the county have activities planned for people of different ages, giving families and individuals more reasons to spend time outdoors during the month.
Among the options are the Nature Tots Program, after-school programs at various county parks, sports activities and nature hikes. Residents looking for a quieter day can simply visit one of Broward’s parks, while those searching for organized activities have several choices.
October also marks the return of Florida Panthers hockey at Amerant Bank Arena. The hometown team is beginning another season and another pursuit of a championship, giving local sports fans another major entertainment option as the fall calendar gets underway.
The month will also lead into one of South Florida’s biggest annual events — the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
Scheduled for Oct. 28 through Nov. 1, the event puts the region’s boating and marine industries in the spotlight. The show attracts more than 100,000 attendees and has an estimated economic impact of $1.79 billion. It is considered the largest in-water boat show in the world.
Beyond displaying boats, the event showcases an industry closely connected to South Florida’s economy and lifestyle. With boating playing such a large role throughout the region, the international show gives residents and visitors an opportunity to see vessels, marine products and other parts of the industry in one location.
Arts and culture are also part of Broward County’s October schedule.
Arts Launch Broward will take place at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and feature live music, dance performances and artist showcases. Visitors will also be able to learn about upcoming exhibits, festivals, concerts and other cultural opportunities.
The event will be held together with the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Sunday Jazz Brunch on Oct. 4, combining multiple cultural activities into one Sunday outing.
Along with recreation and entertainment, October brings several important dates for voters preparing for the 2026 general election.
The deadline to register to vote in Florida for the Nov. 3 general election is Oct. 5. Voters who want to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed to them have until Oct. 22.
In Broward County, early voting will run from Oct. 19 through Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Residents can also observe parts of the election process, including canvassing board meetings, at the Broward County Supervisor of Elections facility. The election office provides information to residents about voting, registration, early voting and other parts of the process.
Udine encouraged eligible residents to take part and make sure they understand the deadlines that apply to them.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, bringing attention to a disease that affects millions of families.
Udine noted that breast cancer can affect both women and men and encouraged residents to pay attention to prevention and early detection. According to the information provided by the commissioner, 12.9% of women will develop breast cancer during their lives.
Early detection can play an important role in treatment, and residents are encouraged to speak with their physicians or health care providers about appropriate preventive care and screening. Udine also encouraged residents who are able to do so to support local organizations that assist people dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis.
The month ends with several seasonal celebrations, including Halloween and Oktoberfest activities. Udine urged residents to enjoy those events responsibly, particularly when alcohol is involved, and reminded people not to drink and drive.
With everything from parks and professional hockey to arts, boating and seasonal celebrations on the calendar, October gives Broward County residents a wide range of ways to get involved in their communities. At the same time, the month carries important reminders involving health and the upcoming election.
Udine said communication with District 3 residents and people throughout Broward County remains a priority for his office.
Residents can contact his office by phone at 954-357-7003 or by email at [email protected]. Meetings are also available by appointment at Coral Springs City Hall.
Udine also uses social media to provide community information and updates, with accounts on Facebook, X and Instagram.
As October unfolds, residents will have plenty to keep track of. Outdoor programs are expanding as the weather changes, the Panthers are returning to the ice, the international boat show is approaching and cultural events are filling the calendar. Meanwhile, election deadlines are arriving quickly, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month is providing another reminder for residents to make their health a priority.
