Third-generation insurance agency helps Coral Springs families navigate coverage decisions

Coral Springs, Florida – For Coral Springs homeowners and business owners comparing insurance policies, finding the lowest premium may not always mean securing the most suitable protection.

That is the approach taken by Nicole Marcus, owner of The Marcus Group, an independent insurance agency serving South Florida residents and businesses since 1999.

Located at 7797 N. University Drive, Suite 204, in Tamarac, just minutes from Coral Springs, the agency provides insurance services for homeowners, drivers, businesses, and individuals seeking different types of coverage.

Marcus emphasizes that insurance decisions should involve more than comparing prices. She believes customers should understand what a policy includes, what it excludes, and how changing coverage could affect their financial protection.

The agency’s history stretches across three generations of a family involved in the insurance industry.

Marcus said her grandmother began selling Allstate insurance policies in the 1950s, during a period when relatively few women worked as insurance agents. Her grandmother also raised three sons independently, establishing a family connection to the profession that continued through subsequent generations.

Marcus’ father later became an Allstate agent, continuing the family’s involvement in insurance.

Following Hurricane Andrew in 1992, changes at Allstate prompted the family to consider new business opportunities.

Marcus explained that her father and his best friend decided to have their wives establish an independent insurance agency.

The business opened in 1999 under the name All Service Insurance. Around 2003, the two families separated their business interests, with Marcus and her mother continuing operations under The Marcus Group name.

Marcus assumed ownership in 2016 after her mother stepped away from the business.

Her father sold his Allstate agency in 2019 and subsequently joined The Marcus Group as a sales agent, bringing his own portfolio of clients.

Today, Marcus remains involved in sales and maintains connections with residents and business owners throughout Coral Springs and neighboring communities.

The agency offers home, automobile, flood, business, life, and bond insurance, while referring much of its health insurance business to specialists.

A central part of Marcus’ approach involves helping customers understand whether a lower-priced policy provides comparable protection.

For example, she said she would not necessarily encourage a longtime customer to change insurers simply to save $200 annually if the existing policy already provides appropriate coverage.

“I’m not here to just make a sale,” Marcus said.

Water damage coverage is one area where Marcus encourages homeowners to examine policy limits carefully.

For owners of two-story homes, she often recommends considering full water coverage because damage from an upstairs plumbing problem can affect several rooms and floors.

“If a pipe breaks upstairs in your bathroom, where does the water go?” Marcus asked.

According to Marcus, a policy with a $10,000 water damage limit may not provide enough protection if a leak damages ceilings, flooring, and a kitchen below.

She said broader coverage could cost approximately $200 to $400 more annually, depending on the policy, and she presents customers with different options so they can make their own decisions.

Marcus also works with homeowners who are considering dropping insurance entirely after paying off their mortgages.

For those willing to assume greater financial risk, she suggests examining whether removing wind coverage while retaining other protections might be an alternative to canceling a policy altogether.

“If you’re going to take a risk, just remove the wind. Don’t remove everything,” she said.

Such decisions depend on individual circumstances, policy terms, and the risks homeowners are prepared to accept.

Another feature of The Marcus Group is its emphasis on direct communication with clients.

Marcus said customers who call the agency speak with a live person rather than a virtual assistant. Clients can also visit the office to discuss their insurance needs.

The agency has retained several employees for extended periods. Five staff members have worked there for nearly two decades, while another three or four have approximately 10 years of experience with the business.

Its newest employee has been with the agency for about a year but brings 25 years of licensed insurance experience.

Beyond insurance services, Marcus is involved in community activities, particularly youth athletics.

She volunteers with a Coral Springs youth softball organization, while The Marcus Group sponsors Coral Springs Softball and other youth sports teams in the surrounding area.

“I’m huge into youth sports,” Marcus said.

The agency continues to serve customers in English and Spanish, combining its family business history with insurance services for South Florida residents and businesses.

The Marcus Group is located at 7797 N. University Drive, Suite 204, Tamarac. For information, call (954) 721-1180 or visit myflainsurance.com.
