Jersey number of the late Rashaud Fields honored in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Rashaud Fields, then 18 years old, was set to pursue his dream of playing college football until he was tragically killed in a shooting.
In May, only hours after Fields had graduated from William Raines High School, he was murdered by a shooter. In honour of his football career, his alma mater now does something special for each home game.
On Friday, the Vikings and the Monsignor Pace Spartans played against each other, and before the game, there was a minute of silence in honor of Fields. His mother was there during the event. The number 53 from her son’s jersey was painted on the end zones of the field.
“It makes me feel great. He was loved and his legacy will live on,” Janice said.
Every score is a powerful reminder of Rashaud, who, had he remained alive, would have been attending Keiser University on a full scholarship. According to Janice, the fact that her family continues to represent her child’s school would make her son happy. Janice also attended and graduated from this school. They were both enthusiastic supporters of Cardinal Red and Silver Gray.
“I’m grateful, I’m happy to know they didn’t forget about my son,” said Fields.
