Collision involving a deputy caused a chemical leak

FORT MYERS, Fla. —A Lee County deputy sustained some minor injuries after being involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer.

The collision took place on Friday morning at around 8:30, and it occurred near the junction of Briarcliff Road and Michael G. Rippe Parkway.

After it was confirmed that a chemical was leaking from the truck’s cargo load, fire services were sent to the location in order to provide assistance.

Crews trained to deal with hazardous materials were summoned to contain the leak and clean the roads.

The driver said he was making a turn when the collision took place.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
