Murder charge for attorney following discovery of body in father’s office

Boca Raton, Florida – An attorney from Boca Raton is under investigation on the grounds of first-degree murder following the discovery of a body in a Boca Raton office building. This office building is also the workplace of his father, who practices law.

The identity of the victim and the cause of death are as yet undisclosed, as confirmed by Jessica Desir, the spokesperson for the Boca Raton police.

34-year-old Brandon Labiner, a resident of Boca Raton, was apprehended on an out-of-county warrant and admitted into the central Palm Beach County jail at 8:59 a.m. on Sunday. A first-degree murder charge was appended to his case later that day, with his initial court appearance slated for Monday morning.

Brandon’s father, 68-year-old Paul Labiner, operates a law office at 5499 N. Federal Highway, the location where the body was discovered around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Monterey, which houses diverse business tenants, occupies the aforementioned address. Paul Labiner specializes in trust and estates law and has held the position of managing partner at his firm since 1990.

Brandon Labiner, until his compulsory resignation in September 2022, worked at his father’s office. His legal expertise was directed towards representing individuals and their families in the drafting of wills and managing revocable and irrevocable trusts.

On September 20, 2022, Paul Labiner instituted a legal action against his son. In tandem with his wife, Mindy Labiner, Paul Labiner filed a damages complaint against Brandon Labiner, his spouse, and Fidelity Brokerage Service, seeking over $300,000 in damages, exclusive of costs and attorney’s fees.

According to the lawsuit, it was alleged that Brandon Labiner and his wife “participated in a scheme to steal and divert funds from the Trust for her own benefit and the benefit of Brandon.”

The lawsuit further stated that “Brandon’s poor work ethic and subpar performance as a plaintiff’s attorney caused the volume of cases to drastically dwindle to what Plaintiff believes is not more than a handful of viable cases.”

Furthermore, the lawsuit noted an incident where Brandon “engaged in a physical altercation with Paul, who was injured in the process. As a result, Brandon was asked to leave the office premises and Brandon complied.”

Brandon Labiner faced an additional blow with the emergency suspension of his law license on April 18. He was accused of unlawfully appropriating $450,000 from his mother’s trust fund, with the bar complaint initiated by his father.

During their inquiry, detectives were drawn to the 900 block of North Federal Highway, south of Glades Road, located approximately three miles away. This region also includes business establishments. The SWAT team was summoned to the site, culminating in the suspect’s arrest after several hours.
