Empty the Shelters initiative in Broward County leads to record pet adoptions

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Broward County Animal Care achieved a significant milestone in pet adoption during their recent “Empty the Shelters” initiative, which ran from July 8 to July 31. In a collaborative effort with the Bissell Pet Foundation, the agency successfully rehomed 228 cats and dogs, marking a record-setting adoption increase.

Impressive Adoption Numbers

During the month-long event, Broward County saw an astounding adoption rate that more than doubled compared to previous efforts. The initiative led to 58 dogs and 170 cats and kittens finding their forever homes, highlighting the community’s enthusiastic participation and support for animal welfare.

Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care, expressed his gratitude and pride in the results: “Animal Care embraces opportunities to connect with partners like Bissell Pet Foundation to save lives and connect pets with families. This is an incredible start. We salute our team’s dedication and our community’s compassion.”

Enhanced Adoption Support

The partnership with Bissell Pet Foundation was instrumental in removing financial hurdles for potential pet owners. By covering the costs of adoption, the foundation ensured that more residents could participate, regardless of their financial situation. Additionally, all pets adopted during the event were provided with essential health care services, including vaccinations, sterilization, and microchipping, ensuring that they were ready for a healthy start in their new homes.

This successful adoption initiative not only provided many animals with loving homes but also emphasized the importance of community and organizational support in addressing pet overpopulation and homelessness. Broward County Animal Care continues to work diligently to uphold animal welfare and promote responsible pet ownership throughout the region.
