Downtown Espresso offers Coral Springs a taste of great coffee

Coral Springs, Florida – Juan Carlos Fernandez-Stoll, a lifelong resident of Coral Springs, just opened Downtown Espresso, a new attraction for locals looking for a stylish bite to eat and a fresh cup of coffee.

The café is situated next to Fernandez’s original eatery, Embarcadero 41 Gastropub, at 3111 N University Drive.

Fernandez, who has lived in Coral Springs for 25 years, saw opening Downtown Espresso as a logical next step. The opportunity came when the coffee store Lady and the Mug closed, creating a need that he felt obliged to fill.

“It’s obvious—it was next door,” Fernandez-Stoll stated. “It’s easier when a few businesses go door-to-door.”

But Downtown Espresso is motivated by more than just convenience. Fernandez wants to differentiate his café by emphasizing innovative, superior products.

They currently offer Lavazza, a great Italian coffee, but he plans to add more Latin-inspired snacks and maybe some kosher alternatives soon. “I want to blow people’s minds with my food,” he said.

He clarified, “I don’t want to be tied to one thing.” “The menu will change over time, bringing something new and interesting.”

Guava chocolate empanadas are one of the menu’s highlights; Fernandez believes that this delight will encourage patrons to try something new.

Fernandez-Stoll, who was born and reared in Peru, worked for Avianca for the majority of his career. A daily journey to Miami was necessary for his career—until the COVID-19 outbreak forced him to make a drastic adjustment in his life. He brought real Peruvian delicacies to Coral Springs with the opening of Embarcadero 41 in January 2022.

He has deep ties to the community. One of his children continues to attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, while two of his children have graduated. Fernandez-Stoll and his family were greatly impacted by the 2018 tragedy at MSD, but he attributes his ability to cope with the blow to Avianca.

“Everything changed for us because of that incident,” he stated. “It helped me understand how important it is to live close to home and be a part of a community that supports you.”

Fernandez-Stoll has embraced his role as a local business owner since establishing Embarcadero 41, cultivating connections with both neighbors and consumers.

“It’s been amazing to be a part of this community,” he remarked. “I’ve felt a strong sense of connection over the last three years.”

First responders are included in that connection: Fernandez says he gives back to those who serve and protect by providing Coral Springs Police and Fire Rescue with free American-style hot coffee from Downtown Espresso.

Fernandez-Stoll intends to establish a warm environment where locals can savor excellent coffee, creative cuisine, and a feeling of community now that Downtown Espresso is formally open.

He declared, “We’re here to make a difference.” “In the cuisine, the service, and the way we unite people.”

Downtown Espresso is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the week.
