After attacking a police dog during a Walmart theft escape, a man was arrested in Coral Springs

Coral Springs, Florida – Last week, a man from Lauderhill was taken into custody in Coral Springs after a violent attempt to flee, which included striking a police K-9 during a pursuit that followed a theft at a nearby Walmart, according to a police report.

On December 8, Jose Medina, 32, was accused of stealing clothing valued at $147 from the Walmart located at 3801 Turtle Creek Drive.

The report indicated that as he fled the store, he pushed a loss prevention officer to the ground, turning the incident into a robbery.

Police in Coral Springs, accompanied by a K-9 unit, responded to the scene and instructed Medina to halt.

Disregarding the orders, Medina tried to flee on foot.

While being pursued, he seized the leash of the police dog and struck the K-9. However, the dog was able to bite Medina’s arm, which enabled officers to apprehend him, according to the report.
Medina, previously on felony probation for grand theft and possession of a controlled substance, is now confronted with new charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and robbery.

According to court records, he was taken to Broward County Jail and subsequently released on bail.
