Coral Springs commission: February offers time for introspection, festivity, and community engagement

Coral Springs, Florida – Seven years after the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the lives lost and the innumerable people affected will always be remembered in our community. In honor of the educators and students who lost their lives on that sad day, we invite you to do action on February 14th that will have an influence on and enhance the lives of others.

At our annual State of the City, which takes place right before our thrilling Community Concert Celebration on Saturday, February 8, we are thrilled to provide significant information regarding our city and its advancements. The music will begin at 5:30 p.m., while State of the City will begin at 5:00 p.m. Savor food truck fare, beer, and family-friendly activities while taking in a vibrant performance by the Landsharks Band, which pays homage to the late, great Jimmy Buffett. The City Hall Lawn (9500 W. Sample Road) will host this free concert.

Come on, let’s glow bright! Come to our first-ever shine Party on Friday, February 21 from 6 to 9 p.m., and dress in neon and shine with us as we light up the night with games, dancing, a graffiti wall, and more. If you buy your tickets online, they cost $8 per person. Tickets and other details are available at CoralSprings.gov/Glow.

This month’s other events include our well-liked toddler program, Juice Box Jam, on Thursday, February 20, and Open Play Chess on Wednesday, February 5 and Wednesday, February 19. Visit CoralSprings.gov/activities for details on all city activities.

As part of our Mayor for the Day initiative, you can experience a day in the shoes of our mayor or commissioners. Selected kids, ranging in grade from third to twelfth, will be able to participate in conversations with municipal leaders, travel to meetings with our elected officials, and get an inside look at how local government functions. Black History Month is in February. As we honor the rich and varied contributions made by African Americans throughout history and showcase the remarkable accomplishments of people transforming our community, follow along on the city’s social media pages.

The Commission Meetings for this month are scheduled for Wednesday, February 5 at 9 a.m. and Wednesday, February 19 at 6:30 p.m. Commission meetings are open to the public as usual. The meetings are broadcast on AT&T U-Verse channel 99, CityTV, and Blue Stream channels 25, 25.7, and 725.
