Coral Springs accepts to pay $670,000 to Parkland for the 8.5-acre Heron Bay development

Coral Springs, Florida – This week, elected officials in Coral Springs decided to proceed with a deal that will pay $670,000 to the city of Parkland for 8.5 acres in Heron Bay.

At its usual Wednesday meeting, the City Commission unanimously approved the arrangement.
De-annexing the site from Coral Springs’ authority and moving it to Parkland, where it will be a part of a bigger mixed-use development, is something the two cities have been discussing.

Parkland bought 65 acres of the Heron Bay site in 2023 with plans to renovate it. A portion of the property was located in Coral Springs.

Parkland can now proceed with its intention to build a Life Time Fitness facility on a section of the former Heron Bay Golf Course because the agreement has been reached.

“This contract will give them some administrative authority over land use and zoning,” Coral Springs deputy city attorney Andrew Dunkiel stated. “In this manner, they can initiate the county application process and start the process to allow for a development north of Heron Bay, which is now Parkland.”

He noted that Coral Springs receives $670,000 in exchange, which covers the tax revenue that will eventually be lost for the 8.5 acres.
