Coral Springs man caught shoplifting at Home Depot two days in a row

Coral Springs, Florida – A Hialeah man found himself in handcuffs after attempting to shoplift from the same Home Depot store two days in a row. Authorities say 48-year-old Adonis Perez Gutierrez was caught red-handed on February 12 after returning to the Coral Springs store, seemingly unfazed by his previous day’s alleged theft.

According to police, Gutierrez had already made off with more than $1,200 worth of roofing materials and tools on February 11. But instead of laying low, he returned the next day, allegedly loading up a shopping cart with high-value items, including saw blades and roofing sealant. Loss prevention staff, who had recognized him from the previous theft, kept a close eye as he tried to walk out without paying.

His plan quickly unraveled. As soon as he was confronted by store security, Gutierrez bolted, running through the parking lot in a desperate attempt to escape. Unfortunately for him, police officers were already on-site, responding to the reported theft. A short chase ensued, but officers quickly detained him before he could get far.

Authorities later recovered $2,329 worth of stolen merchandise from the February 12 incident alone. When combined with the previous day’s theft, the total value of the allegedly stolen goods reached $3,550 in just 48 hours.

Investigators noted that Gutierrez was not working alone. Another man had accompanied him during the second shoplifting attempt, but he managed to escape in a vehicle before police could intervene. It remains unclear whether authorities have identified or apprehended the accomplice.

Following his arrest, Gutierrez was charged with retail theft exceeding $750 within a 120-day period and obstruction of an officer without violence. He was booked into the Broward County Jail but was later released on bail, according to court records.

Retail theft remains a persistent issue for large stores like Home Depot, where loss prevention teams work closely with law enforcement to deter repeat offenders. In this case, vigilance from store employees and a swift police response ensured that a suspected serial shoplifter didn’t get away a second time.
