Intoxicated Coral Springs man assaults woman in apartment elevator before her escape

Coral Springs, Florida – A terrifying incident unfolded in a Coral Springs apartment complex earlier this month when a woman was attacked by a heavily intoxicated neighbor in the building’s elevator. The woman managed to escape and alert authorities after a harrowing struggle, according to a police report.

The incident occurred around 1 AM on February 16. The victim was returning to her apartment from the parking lot when she stepped into the building’s elevator. Moments later, a man—later identified as 29-year-old Djash Denis, a resident of the same complex—followed her inside. Witnesses and surveillance footage captured Denis looking disheveled, his belt unbuckled, and his appearance unkempt.

According to the police report, Denis made an inappropriate remark about “bad sex” before suddenly lunging at the woman. He grabbed her by the neck, forcing her against the elevator wall, and forcibly kissed her. The woman, in shock and fear, tried to push him away and exit the elevator, but Denis forcibly pulled her back inside, physically restraining her.

The nightmare didn’t end there. When the elevator doors finally reopened, she made another desperate attempt to escape, but Denis pursued her into the hallway. He pinned her against the wall, lifted her shirt, and placed his mouth on her breast, the report stated. She fought back, struggling to free herself from his grip. Denis, however, refused to let go, seizing her wrist and attempting to drag her toward his apartment.

Despite his physical strength and relentless aggression, the victim continued to resist, screaming and pulling away with all her might. After a tense struggle, she managed to break free and rushed to the safety of her apartment, where she immediately called 911.

Responding officers arrived at the scene shortly after and were directed to Denis’s unit by the victim. When questioned, Denis denied any wrongdoing and claimed he had not attacked anyone. However, the victim positively identified him as her attacker. During further questioning, Denis admitted to being heavily intoxicated and insisted that he had no clear recollection of the events, aside from attempting to kiss the victim.

Police arrested Denis on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, and two counts of battery. He was transported to Broward County Jail, where he was later released on bail, according to court records.

This alarming incident has left residents of the apartment complex shaken. Many are calling for increased security measures to prevent similar attacks in the future. Law enforcement officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to prevent such violent incidents from occurring.

As the legal process unfolds, authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information regarding the case to come forward. The victim, though physically unharmed, is reportedly traumatized by the encounter. She is receiving support from friends, family, and local advocacy groups.

Cases like these serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of sexual violence and the importance of swift action in seeking justice for victims. Community members hope this case will result in stricter enforcement of safety measures within residential buildings, ensuring that residents feel secure in their own homes.
